Introduction

Diverticulitis is an important surgical presentation which needs prompt review and treatment. This module aims to provide an overview of diverticular disease including the anatomy, pathophysiology and management options.

  • Describe relevant investigations 

  • Discuss management and follow up 

  • Identify possibly complications

Tips & Tricks on running an effective session:

  • Describe pathophysiology and anatomy of adjacent structures

  • Understand assessment of the acute abdomen and management of the sick patient with ABCD principles

  • Understand the need for both acute care and follow up 

  • Consider differential diagnosis in abdominal pain 

  • Consider other nearby anatomical structures that could be involved and relevant to the presenting complaint
