NPMT team presents at ANZPMEF 2024

Congratulations to the NPMT team this year for two successful and well-received oral presentations in Australia and New Zealand Prevocational Medical Education Forum 2024 in Darwin this year.

Dr Daniel Heidegger (Interprofessional learning chair 2024) presented on “Using interprofessional advanced life support simulation to improve non-technical skills in critical care training for nursing and medical students” showcasing an innovative approach to teaching communication skills in a high stress environment across learning curriculums in healthcare. His work would not be possible without the support of nursing and medical students, as well as Dr Hemal Patel (Clinical lead for final year students) and Dr Mahli Kumarasinhe (interprofessional learning co-chair).

Dr Vivian Lin (NPMT Chair 2024) presented on “Exploring motivators and consequences of engaging in a near-peer educational program as tutors and leaders. Phenomenological perspectives of Australian Junior Medical Officers in one Local Health District”. In this qualitative study, she explores the motivating factors for junior doctors entering core NPMT committee roles as founders and leaders. Her findings showed that teaching culture is deeply ingrained in junior doctors and associated with clinical excellence, but also allowed for further professional networking and development of fundamental skills of organisation and time-management for junior doctors. Her work would not be possible without the guidance of Eleonora Leopardi and Dr Rachel Yager.

2024 has been a great year for representation of NPMT, and as the academic year comes to a close, we are excited to see what the 2025 committee has to bring!
