  • Understand the epidemiology of neck of femur fractures

  • Review the anatomy of the hip joint and its relevance in the management of hip fractures

  • Correctly classify fractures of the proximal femur

  • Understand the essential components in working up and managing a hip fracture

  • Practice communication skills using clinical cases of hip fractures

Tips & Tricks on running an effective session:

The neck of femur fracture is a serious but common presentation to Australian emergency departments. This module covers the epidemiology, anatomy and classification of NOF fractures and briefly covers the operative management.

Case examples are used to give students practice at interpreting plain radiographs, considering patient factors and presenting fractures cases to orthopedic registrars and specialists. You can use the provided case examples or substitute your own.
